Jaya sacks 59 party functionaries

Continuing to crack the whip on former Speaker D. Jayakumar’s camp, AIADMK high command on Thursday divested about 59 party functionaries from various posts in the party.

Most of the functionaries are branch secretaries, office bearers of various wings of the ruling AIADMK including fishermen’s wing, legal wing, MGR Mandram and Jayalalithaa Peravai.

It is said they have been identified to be close to Jayakumar who has resigned from the post of Assembly Speaker.

The functionaries who have been stripped of their posts were from North Chennai, R. K. Nagar, Tiruvottiyur, Kasimedu, Harbour and Tiruvallur South areas.

C. Ve. Shanmugam who was dropped from the Cabinet was also stripped off Villuppuram north district secretary post in AIADMK and was replaced with Dr R. Lakshmanan, who was Villupuram north district doctors’ wing secretary.

AIADMK supremo and chief minister J. Jayalalithaa had also replaced North Chennai district secretary P. Vetrivel with T.G. Venkatesh Babu, who is currently North Chennai MGR Mandram joint secretary.

She sacked south Chennai district secretary G. Senthamizhan and appointed Virugai V.N. Ravi, who is currently the Virugambakkam area secretary of AIADMK, in his place.

On Oct. 3, Ms Jayalalithaa had effected a minor shuffle of her Cabinet inducting P. Mohan, the Sankarapuram legislator and government Chief Whip as rural industries minister.
