Jayalalitaa gets e-Pathai for highways dept
Chief minister Jayalalitaa has launched GIS-integrated road management system “e-Pathai” (e-way), a new software, for the highways department.
An official release said e-Pathai, (electronic project, administration, traffic, highway assets and information management system) would be used for the effective maintenance of the 62,017 km of roads under the state highways department by monitoring them through the internet.
The e-Pathai has been programmed in such a way that the public can also access details about bridges, roads and other projects implemented by the highways department, the release said.
It said the new initiative, with the help of highways department’s database, would effectively act as projects, human resources and finance management system.
The road management system will compile details of road infrastructure and scientifically help in allocation of funds for various projects, it said.
The field data on condition of roads and bridges would be collected through advanced data collection equipment for the e-Pathai.
The data will be analysed and maintenance work taken up on priority basis based on the condition of the road, it said.
CM inaugurates new facilities at zoo
Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa inaugurated numerous facilities established at the cost of `3.25 crore by the tourism department at Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur, and also hostels for backward class students, through video conferencing.
The zoo’s entrance was given a complete makeover to attract more tourists. About 43 images of mammals, birds and reptiles have been engraved on the 205 metre-long compound wall at the entrance.
Besides, adequate lighting facilities, granite and marble stones were placed on the towers at the entrance with the symbol of TN government at the top.
The road leading to the entrance has been extended and iron railings have been put up for the benefit of tourists. About 20 new ticket counters have been opened with details about the fare.
The cave-like structure at the entrance has been given a fresh coat of paint, while the recreation centre, library and other facilities are refurbished.
She also inaugurated seven student hostels constructed at the cost of Rs 3.51 crore by backward classes and minorities welfare department in Karur, Madurai, Tiruvallur, Namakkal, Nagapattinam districts besides Courtallam and Sirkazhi.
Ms Jayalalithaa also granted pension and gratuity to seven persons who had retired from Tamil Nadu Wakf Board, on the occasion.
