Jayalalithaa allots Rs 30cr for welfare of TN cops
Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa on Friday said Rs 30 crore would be allotted for the modernisation and welfare of the police department.
Also, an engineering college at a cost of Rs 93.64 crore would come up at Bodinayakanur, in Theni district.
An official press release said over Rs 10 crore has been allotted towards creation of 119 new posts, including that of a deputy commissioner and two assistant commissioners for the Central Crime Branch for Chennai city police. About 87 patrol vehicles will also be bought for the force.
The chief minister has sanctioned Rs 4.81 crore for constructing an SP’s office at Thanjavur.
The chief minister also allotted Rs 11.33 crore for construction of barracks for policemen in Tiruvannamalai district.
The press release said she has directed that a scientific wing in the crime branch CID division of the state police also be created.
The CM has also approved Rs 5 crore for procuring 1,000 computers and Rs 92 lakh to buy chairs for visitors to police stations.
According to an official press release, the college at Bodinayakanur is being set up to enable students in southern districts get access to engineering courses.
The college would commence operations from this academic year and admit 300 students in various streams, including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering.
The fund would be used to develop infrastructure facilities, including setting up laboratories, hostels and purchase of computers.
