Jayalalithaa inducts new face Mohan in Cabinet
In a minor reshuffle of cabinet and party ranks, chief minister J. Jayalalithaa on Wednesday dropped C. Ve. Shanmugam holding the commercial taxes portfolio from the cabinet and inducted P. Mohan, the Sankarapuram legislator and government chief whip as rural industries minister.
Mr Mohan, the new face in her cabinet, has been allocated rural industries including cottage and small industries, hitherto held by M. C. Sampath.
Shanmugam, part of earlier cabinet reshuffles also, was dropped by Governor K. Rosaiah on the advice of Ms Jayalalithaa, according to a communiqué from Raj Bhavan.
He was also stripped off Villuppuram north district secretary post in AIADMK and was replaced with Dr R. Lakshmanan, who was Villupuram north district doctors’ wing secretary.
Social welfare minister B. Valarmathi has been designated as minister for social welfare and nutritious noonmeal programme, while Mr Sampath has been designated as minister for environment.
The portfolios of commercial taxes, registration and stamp act has been allocated to Mr. Ramanaa who has been designated as minister for commercial taxes and registration.
School education minister N. R. Sivapathy has been designated as minister for school education, sports and youth welfare, law, courts and prisons. The swearing-in of the new minister will take place at Raj Bhavan on October 6 at 11 am.
AIADMK supremo also replaced North Chennai district secretary P. Vetrivel with T. G. Venkatesh Babu, who is currently North Chennai MGR Mandram joint secretary.
She sacked South Chennai district secretary G. Senthamizhan and appointed Virugai V. N. Ravi, who is currently the Virugambakkam area secretary of AIADMK, in his place.
