Job seekers interested in learning foreign languages

In today’s competitive world, learning an additional language is always an asset. Students, especially job seekers are showing keen interest in learning foreign languages.

Be it Spanish, French, German or Japanese languages, Chennaiites are ready to learn and grab job opportunities in foreign countries.

M.K. Sathish Kumar, branch incharge, Chennai, Institute of Hispania at Santhome says, “Age is not a constraint when it comes to learning a new language.

In our institute at Santhome both students and working professionals are learning the Spanish language. There’re eight levels to complete the course. Usually, students between 15 and 25 years are fast learners.”

Mr Kumar adds that if a student completes two levels then it means he has successfully completed the foundation.

“Students also learn Spanish as it will help them when they go abroad to pursue higher studies. The cost is Rs 8,700 per level and many software professionals from reputed companies learn Spanish as it will be useful for them when they contact clients from abroad,” adds Kumar.

When it comes to learning French, Chennaiites show enormous interest as French is the second most influential language in the world.

Suchitra Ravi, course coordinator, Alliance Francaise of Madras said, “About 3,000 students enroll at Alliance per year to learn French.

There are six levels. The age group varies and students learn French as they can score good marks in the subject. Some students are passionate about learning new languages as they can include them in their resumes.”

Sri Hari Subramaniyan, who learnt Spanish said, “My passion was to learn Spanish and specialize in it. It took two years for me to complete level 5, which is Diploma in Advanced Spanish.

Soon after completion, I got a job as foreign language specialist for a Denmark-based company in Chennai. There are plenty of job opportunities for those who learn Spanish.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
