Jothimani may head TN mahila Congress
She started as a panchayat union councilor from a nondescript village in Karur over a decade back. She rose to the office of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) general secretary a few years back.
Today, the M Phil degree holder and author of a few short stories, is among four IYC functionaries handpicked by Congress secretary Rahul Gandhi for elevation.
She is Jothimani, one of the 10 IYC functionaries who were given a ticket in the 2011 Assembly polls.
She has been chosen for the post of Tamil Nadu Mahila Congress president by Mr Rahul Gandhi and approved by party chief Sonia Gandhi.
“An official announcement will be made shortly,” a senior Congress functionary preferring anonymity told this paper.
Jothimani and the other three are a part of Rahul Gandhi’s influential coterie, which works directly with voters in Amethi and Rae Bareli constituencies and report the feedback to Rahul directly.
Unwilling to comment on the elevation, Jothimani told DC that she had not received any communication from the high command but she would take up whatever assignment RG (as Rahul Gandhi is affectionately addressed in the coterie) gives her.
