Junior docs on strike for second day
The junior doctors at Rajiv Gandhi government general hospital continued their strike for the second consecutive day demanding protection and the arrest of attendants who had attacked the duty doctors few days ago.
The strike, the second such episode in the past one-week took its toll on patients, as the GH operated with just half its strength.
A few days ago, angry relatives of a patient who died at the GH had attacked a group of duty doctors and recently in another incident, advocates who had come to visit their friend who was admitted to the GH manhandled a student doctor when he asked them to leave the ward.
The Irked student doctors squatted in front of the hospital and refused to return to work. Attempts by the dean to pacify them turned futile as the student doctors struck work for the second consecutive day on Monday.
The junior doctors demanded that the attendants of patients should not be allowed inside the ward, action should be initiated against those who attack the junior doctor and proper police protection should be given to all the doctors at government hospitals.
The strike by doctors has left the operations at the hospital in a limbo for the past two days.
