Karuna debuts on Twitter with teso comments
Not wanting to be left out in the hi-tech race, DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi has joined the social media bandwagon to voice his views to the world.
Though he may be a trite delayed at the age of 89, the party chief has started tweeting from an account created on his name, kalaignar89@twitter.com. Within just few hours of its launch on Tuesday, the account accrued 1,700 followers by 9 pm.
In fact, the first two tweets are about the first conference of the revived Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation, the subject close to his heart. His first tweet was about the resolution adopted at the conference while second one was his statement on successful conduct of the meet.
There was a mixed response for him joining the twitter. While many of his followers welcomed him to the world of tweeting, some of them were critical about him for holding the Teso conference.
The DMK sources confirmed opening of the Twitter account by the party chief. “Kalaignar would use the medium to reach out to the younger generation who are widely using the social network sites,” sources said.
The party sources said that they are also planning to launch a website for the octogenarian leader www.thalaivarkalaignar.com soon. But it was his son M.K. Stalin who first took to social media. A website www.mkstalin.net was launched in 2008 on his 56th birthday.
