Kid abductor back in police net
A child abductor who escaped from police custody two-and-a-half months back in the city was nabbed by the sleuths of the city crime branch from Washermenpet on Tuesday night.
G. Kumarapandian, caught by a member of public in the last week of March when he tried to escape with an abducted two-year-old boy from Tondiarpet, managed to give the slip to the policemen the very next day from the CCB office in Thousands Lights.
Kumarapandian, being questioned at the Thousand Lights office, escaped after seeking permission to go to the toilet.
Apart from the toddler he kidnapped from T.H. Road in Tondiarpet, Kumarapandian is believed to be involved in three other child abduction cases.
During the first round of questioning, he had indicated that he was behind the kidnap of four-year-old girl Tammanna from the sands of the Marina. The girl had returned mysteriously and was found at the GH a few days later.
The police suspect that he was the man who abducted a baby from Kilpauk Medical College Hospital and left it at Egmore Maternity Hospital after people started enquiring about the infant in his hand. The child’s whereabouts are so far not known.
