Kovai boy dies in CCU after 4 days
Seven-year-old J. Jeson, admitted in a private hospital after being found unconscious in a swimming pool at Gandhi Park on Wednesday, died on Sunday. The parents are shattered losing their only son, born after 13 years of marriage.
R.S. Puram police said a case of negligence has been registered against the pool contractor Arul Shankar and trainer Shiva. “Jeson was in the pool along with his friends. He came out to drink water and returned to the pool after sometime. His parents found him missing and trainer Shiva too did not notice the kid. A search was launched and Jeson was found unconscious at the bottom of the pool”, a police officer said.
He said the boy was rushed to a private hospital and admitted in critical care unit. He died on Sunday.
Though the police registered a case against the contractor and trainer, the boy’s family did not appear keen on pursuing the case, he said, adding that the police was waiting for the postmortem report to decide on the future course of action.
Coimbatore corporation commissioner T.K. Ponnusamy said the pool had been closed after the tragedy. “After the postmortem report, we will initiate action against the contractor”, he said, adding that the contractor should have taken steps to control the holiday crowd and engage more trainers.
