Lifejackets for 7 boathouses soon

There will virtually be no rides at the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC’s) boating yards without lifejackets.

The authorities, who have mandated the wearing of lifejackets for all those who avail the boat rides, have planned to purchase life jackets for seven boathouses in the state.

“The government has laid emphasis on the safety of tourists who avail boat rides.

So, keeping in tune with the decision the corporation will purchase life jackets,” an official said. Be it a child or an adult, the visitor who wishes to enjoy a boat ride will be made to wear a life jacket.

Accordingly, it has been decided to equip the boating yards at Muttukadu and Mudaliarkuppam here, and Pitchavaram, Ooty, Pykara, Yercaud and Kodaikanal with lifejackets.

“Though the exact number will be decided depending upon the number of tourists visiting the boat houses, qualitatively good lifejackets will be purchased from competent firms,” the official added.
