Man found with slit throat on train
Passengers who boarded the first-class coach of the Sulurpet-Chennai EMU at Sulurpet were in for a rude shock Saturday morning when they noticed an elderly man bleeding, with his throat slit.
Hearing the screams of a few passengers, who ran helter-skelter on the platform around 7 am, a couple of government railway police (GRP) personnel rushed to the coach. The cops initially took the victim to the government hospital in Sulurpet and then to the general hospital in Chennai after his condition worsened.
Condition of Yuvaraj, 56, a grade-I mechanic of Perambur loco workshop, of Agaram in Chennai, is stable after a surgery, said Chennai GRP inspector Sekar.
Police suspect that robbers could be involved as inquiries with Yuvaraj’s family revealed that he was returning home to Sulurpet with some money. He last made a call to his family at 8 pm, informing them about his return with money.
According to GRP inspector of Nellore circle, Mr R.G. Subhramanyam, Yuvaraj left home around 6 pm Friday to collect money from someone in Saidapet. The family was not aware of the details of the cash or the lender.
Mr Sekar said the incident happened early in the morning as Yuvaraj was found in the first train to start to Sulurpet from Moore Market complex at 5 am and the blood was fresh. They have neither received a complaint from the relatives nor anyone in the city. Even the person from whom Yuvaraj collected the money has not approached the police, Mr Sekar said, pointing out that they are waiting for Yuvaraj to gain consciousness.
