Mela focuses on recycling resources
Renowned percussionist A. Sivamani inaugurated the Indo German Urban Mela on Friday with much fanfare and by Saturday, thanks to simple activities, experiments, interactive sessions and video clips from Germany and India, the mela was already a hit among youngsters.
Origami stalls and a clown show saw a host of toddlers participating with great enthusiasm.
The stalls also showcased the necessity to reuse– reduce–recycle natural resources.
“Today we stressed on Reduce– Reuse and Recycle; we can start in our homes by separating degradable waste from non-bio degradable. We can use a cotton or jute bag, it is very easy to make,” said Sabine, an organiser.
The exclusive origami stall that will be part of the 10-day celebration was a silent crowd puller as every school kid made it a point to visit the stall and learn a bit of origami.
“We are trying to create an interactive sculpture like human tree and the main theme is to create awareness to make the city clean; we will display it on the final day,” said Shailesh Bo, an artist.
“I really love origami and I will do a lot of them after going home; making them is so much fun,” said Abilasha Chand, a Class VII student.
Apart from clowns and origami, the festival enlightened participants about the importance of waste management and source segregation.
