MTC buses to pick airport passengers
In an attempt to provide easy connectivity to passengers flying into Chennai, city transport provider Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has instructed buses heading to Tambaram to enter the airport and pick passengers during morning hours.
This move would provide relief to passengers hailing from suburbs as well as southern districts as they could reach SETC bus stop at Perungalathur easily. Besides, all MTC shuttle services operated as circle buses via Velachery have been redirected to Anna Nagar from Tamil New Year.
The arrangement has been made to facilitate passengers who alight from flights during early hours, as they find it tough to reach the bus terminuses or railway station with their baggage and end up opting for fleecing private vehicles.
Taking this into consideration, officials of Airports Authority of India had asked MTC to operate services providing easy access for air passengers to arterial Tambaram railway station.
AAI officials had only allowed MTC buses to enter the airport only for two hours. “Buses heading towards Tambaram and Chengalpattu will touch the airport and pick passengers from 5 am at to 7 am at 20 minutes interval. We had asked to extend it by one more hour to which AAI officials did not agree,” MTC sources told DC.
Though the move has brought respite to passengers, they have urged the authorities to extend the facility in the evening.
