New tabs on building deviation
Concerned over the mushrooming illegal structures and buildings with violations in Chennai, the city corporation has embarked on a new module under which the failure by field-level engineers to curb the deviations can be monitored easily.
A press release from Ripon Buildings issued by corporation commissioner P.W.C. Dawidar says buildings should necessarily be constructed after having obtained approval from competent authority in line with the approved plan.
However, very often, the construction is being done with many deviations and enforcement action is being taken very late by the field engineers (JE/AE/ AEE) concerned after inspection of the building.
In several cases, notices are issued to the building owners after the construction has reached the roof-level and this leads to long drawn litigation.
In order to prevent situations in which the interventions is occurring very late, the name of the divisional AE/JE and phone number shall be recorded on the approved plan copy.
The same would help the civic body to necessary action against the errant engineers and builders who violate construction norms.
Area engineers on having received the intimation from the building owner shall inspect the site within 10 working days to ensure that the foundation has been laid as per the dimensions of the approved plan.
This procedure as detailed above does not in any way supersede the general instructions and rules for constructions.
