New VC appointed to Thiruvalluvar varsity

Governor-Chancellor Dr K. Rosaiah on Wednesday appointed Prof P. Gunasekaran, syndicate member of Madurai Kamaraj University, as the new vice-chancellor of Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore.

He is currently a senior professor and head of department of Genetics, School of Biologiocal Sciences at Madurai Kamaraj University. He received the Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in Biological Sciences from the Governor in March.

A native of Kodimangalam in Madurai district, Prof Gunasekaran has done research in metagenomics and bioprospecting, molecular biology and genomics of zymomonas mobilis and filamentous fungi.

Prof Gunasekaran was an invited professor and divisional chair at department of biotechnology in Division Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana, México, invited professor University of Provence.

Rumours are rife that vice-chancellors for Tirunelveli Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and Tamil Nadu Open University have also been appointed.
