No pictures of min, MLAs on banners

In a move aimed at preventing intra-party squabbles, the ruling AIADMK has warned its partymen against using photos of ministers and party functionaries in banners and advertisements pertaining to party functions and other events.

“There is no practice of using the pictures of ministers, legislators and MPs attending government and party functions in posters and banners and the party high command had never approved it.

Party workers should hereafter use only pictures of leader Periyar, late chief minister C. N. Annadurai, party founder MGR and AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa in posters and banners,” a release from party headquarters here said on Saturday.

MGR had made it clear that only his pictures and those of rationalist leader Periyar and former chief minister Annadurai be used in posters, banners and other publicity material. Since Ms Jayalalithaa took over as general secretary, her photos are also used.

“When a (AIADMK) minister attends a programme, only his picture is carried in posters by some office-bearers, leaving out the rest. As a result, some others leave out the picture of the minister and print those of others, leading to clashes between party workers,” the release said.

Hence, the names of other participants like the ministers, MLAs and MPs could be printed on posters and banners instead of using their photographs. Any party cadre who contravened would face stringent disciplinary action, the release warned.

This announcement was being issued considering certain ‘unwanted incidents’ taking place over the use of the photographs of some party functionaries and ignoring others, the statement explained.
