The innovative scheme to provide free cows / goats to the poor will trigger economic development in a big way in the state, says state finance minister O. Panneerselvam.

“The novel scheme launched by chief minister J. Jayalalithaa will not only help to usher in the second white revolution but also ensure employment opportunities to the rural people,” Mr Panneerselvam said.

Speaking at the party’s rally at Kolathur here, the minister said the DMK, which had weakened the state during its five-year rule had no locus standi to criticise the ruling AIADMK.

“Due to wrong policies of the then DMK government the TNEB had incurred debts to the tune of Rs 48,000 crore,” he said.

Shortly after capturing power, the chief minister had restored the law and order in the state that had deteriorated during the previous rule of the “minority” DMK and also initiated measures to stabilise the prices of essential commodities.

Besides, she put the economy on the right track and making the state to march towards development.

“During the 11 months of her rule, the chief minister had introduced several developmental schemes including free rice to about 1.8 crore family ration cardholders, doubling the pension, enhancing the marriage assistance for poor girls and giving away four gram gold thali to poor women,” Mr Panneerselvam said.

Party legislator P. Vetrivel alleged that DMK members boycotted the Assembly proceedings as they “lacked the courage to debate” in the House. “Even the party leader is shying away from attending the House,” Mr Vetrivel claimed.

Following instruction from party supremo Ms Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK has been conducting rallies throughout the state to highlight the state budget.
