Party high command has last word, MK tells Alagiri, Stalin men

In an effort to bring an end to the rivalry between his sons M. K. Stalin and M. K. Alagiri, DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Monday chaired a ‘conciliatory’ meeting of office-bearers of both factions of Madurai district unit and said they should function unitedly.

Addressing the meeting at party headquarters Anna Arivalayam, Mr Karunanidhi said they should work towards “doing away with the fog that has engulfed (Madurai unit), paving the way for the Rising Sun (which is his party symbol) with renewed force”.

Mr Karunanidhi sought to assure that the word of party high command was ultimate and sought to unite the party in the face of a reported power struggle among his sons.

“Whatever the decisions taken, they are by the high command. Alagiri and Stalin (his sons) are not different. Both are DMK (members). Both have dedicated themselves to DMK,” he said.

Referring to certain comments made in the meeting that no one should betray the DMK family, Mr Karunanidhi expressed confidence that no party men would take any such action which is detrimental to the interest of the party.
