Patnaik assures aid to tribals
Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday assured the tribal communities of the adivasi-dominated Koraput district in Odisha of welfare assistance and also promised to take steps to allot land for the M.S. Swaminathan Research and Foundation (MSSRF) centre in Jeypore, Odisha.
Patnaik addressed the problems of the tribal community in Koraput district through video conferencing organised by the MSSRF centre in Jeypore, Koraput, at a function at the MSSRF centre here.
The adivasis highlighted the lack of drinking water in their hamlet. Patnaik promised to direct the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to resolve the issue.
The Odisha chief minister also promised to take steps to allot an additional 2.2 acres of land to MSSRF centre in Jeypore.
Dr V. Selvam, director, coastal system research, MSSRF, cited examples from Tamil Nadu to show how lucrative aqua farming is.
“The MSSRF centre in Odisha is doing amazing work in educating the tribal community about genetics and helping them market kalajeera, a specialty rice that has both medicinal and herbal values,” he said.
