PC pays courtesy call on Karunanidhi
Home minister P. Chidambaram called on DMK president M. Karunanidhi at his CIT Colony residence Sunday evening.
While DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan termed the 20-minute meet as a ‘courtesy’ call, party sources said the two leaders discussed the Presidential poll.
“Mr Chidambaram also thanked thalaivar for supporting the Congress choice of Hamid Ansari for a second term as Vice-President”, said a DMK source, recalling that Mr Karunanidhi had actively campaigned for former finance minister Pranab Mukherjee as the UPA Presidential candidate.
As one of those who rooted for the alliance between the Dravidian major and the national party to continue ahead of the assembly polls in the state last year, Mr Chidambaram always had a close relationship with the DMK patriarch and his visit could be seen in that light ahead of the polls for President and Vice-President.
