PMK urges leaders to unite on Cauvery issue
PMK founder, Dr S. Ramadoss, on Sunday urged Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa to convene an all-party meeting on the Cauvery issue.
“In spite of their political differences, all the parties in Karnataka are standing united on the Cauvery issue. To counter them, the TN parties should join hands to get our rightful share of water,” he said in a statement.
Dr Ramadoss asked the state government not to accept the suggestion of Union external affairs minister S.M. Krishna that TN should not approach the Supreme Court, but hold talks on sharing the river water.
Pointing out that over 40 rounds of talks had been held between the states, he said when Mr Krishna was Karnataka’s CM in 2003, he apologised before the SC after failing to release water as ordered by it.
Dr Ramadoss urged PM to strictly direct the Karnataka government to release the water.
The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi has announced that it would launch ‘Cauvery Water Rights Yatra’ from Chidambaram on October 3. The yatra, led by its president and MP Thol. Thirumavalavan, would seek immediate release of water.
