Police cracks murder case in 15 hours
The city police cracked the Tuesday night murder for gain of a housewife in Old Washermanpet by arresting two people, including the friend of the victim’s son, in 15 hours and recovering the 45 sovereigns of gold and Rs 15 lakh cash that was stolen from the house.
Those arrested were identified as Suresh, 26, of Royapuram, and Sathish, 22, of Thiruvotriyur. Suresh was a friend of Dinesh Kumar, the son of the deceased, who runs a clothes shop in T Nagar.
According to police, Suresh working in a travel agency and was a regular visitor to Dinesh’s house. He had seen Baskaran and Gnana Sundari, the murdered victim, handling cash.
“Suresh and his unemployed friend Sathish felt robbery was an easy way of becoming rich. They planned the robbery and handed over the loot to their friend Fathima. We think the woman was also part of the conspiracy,” the police said.
Gnana Sundari, 46, the wife of rice merchant Baskaran, was found strangled to death in her house in Royapuram by intruders who had fled with the valuables.
Police said Gnana Sundari was alone at home in Rajarathinam Street when the incident took place.
Her husband Baskaran found her lying unconscious in her bedroom when he came home at 10 pm. He immediately took her to hospital where the medical team declared her brought dead.
The bureau in the house was found ransacked and cash and gold missing. Police said Baskaran had left his wife at home after taking her to a doctor at 7 pm.
