Poll code in Pudukottai
With code of conduct coming into effect immediately in the wake of Pudukkottai assembly constituency going to bypolls on June 12 , EC has clarified that the government is free to make announcements on programmes and welfare measures for people across the state except Pudukottai district.
The election commission has also stated that the aspiring voters in the constituency could still apply for inclusion of their names in electoral rolls.
“As the date for Pudukkottai bypoll has been declared, code of conduct comes into immediate effect.
The state government should stay away from announcing any specific schemes for Pudukottai constituency,” state chief electoral officer Praveen Kumar told DC on Tuesday.
Now that the winter budget session of the Assembly is going on and welfare measures are being announced, it was unclear whether the state government could go ahead with further announcements.
However, the CEO clarified that government could go ahead with fresh announcement related to other parts of the state.
Meanwhile, EC stated that the aspiring voters in the constituency still had time to include their names in rolls.
“The aspiring voters can apply for inclusion till May 15. As of now, the constituency has 1.92 lakh voters and 198 polling booths will be set up for the polling,” Mr Kumar said.
