Power failure? Blame it on showers!
Tangedco employees blamed the sudden showers for the power failure that occurred around 2 am on Tuesday.
Residents of Perambur had to wake up early on Tuesday morning due to another power cut that lasted for more than three and half hours.
Even on Monday morning, there had been an unscheduled power cut. Irked by the unscheduled power cuts, the public thronged the electricity board office in Perambur and gheraoed employees.
This has become a common scenario in other areas including Kodambakkam where residents face power cuts for entire day twice a month.
Angry residents trooped into the substation on Paper Mills Road around 8.30 am and besieged the employees with questions on the frequent power cuts and threatened to stage a road roko if they continued.
“While we are trying to adapt to the two-hour outage, though it’s highly unacceptable, there have been frequent power cuts in our area besides the ‘scheduled’ power cut,” a resident of Teeds Garden told this newspaper. Last Thursday, there had been no power for several hours during the night in the area.
“There was a power cut around 2 am that disturbed our sleep and this was followed with another one at 6 am which went on till 9.30 am, thereby affecting the morning chores of my school-going kids and my office schedule,” complained Mr Balakumar, an officegoer from Gurusamy street.
There was a power cut even on Monday morning and on Sunday night, he said. When asked, electricity board employees said that the rains could have affected the cables while another official reasoned that the problem must be due to technical faults of a few cable lines.
