Power restored in wind-hit areas
On Friday, Tangedco restored power to Pattabiram and its adjoining areas in the western part of the city where electricity poles and lines were snapped after being hit by squally winds.
Heavy winds on Thursday evening damaged 88 low-tension poles and snapped cables in several parts of Pattabiram besides uprooting trees. The whole of Pattabiram plunged into darkness.
A Tangedco official said power has been restored in most of the areas. “We have replaced all 88 damaged poles and lines.
Work is on to operate six damaged transformers,” the official said. In a bid to restore power in a short span of time, the corporation deployed 90 workers and engineers from nearby areas including Puzhal and Red Hills.
Roy Rozario, a resident of Pattabiram and general secretary of People’s Voice, said gusty winds, which lasted for nearly half an hour, created havoc in the locality.
“The Tangedco officials worked round-the-clock to restore power to most of the areas except Kamarajapuram, North Bazaar, Babu Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar and Uzhaipalar Nagar,” he said and thanked the electricity department for speedy restoration of power.
Avadi Municipal chairperson S.M. Nasar told DC that power would be restored to all areas by Friday night. He said mu-nicipality workers had removed debris and uprooted trees in the area.
Over 10 water tankers were pressed into service for supplying drinking water in and around Pattabiram area, he added.
