Pramod Kumar served suspension order

Tainted inspector-general of police, Pramod Kumar has been finally served his suspension orders in Puzhal jail where he was lodged after being arrested in connection with the Tirupur Paazee Forex scam, in which thousands of investors were duped to the tune of several hundreds of crores of rupees.

“He has been served the suspension order,” said a senior jail official on Monday confirming the development.

According to sources, though the order was issued earlier, there was a hindrance in serving him to order in person.

The officer was arrested in Delhi by the CBI, Chennai in the first week of May and was remanded to prison in Coimbatore.

Later he was in CBI custody for five days after which he was again sent to jail. In between he was admitted to hospital in Coimbatore and his lawyer sought permission to shift him to Chennai for better treatment facility. He was then brought to Chennai by car and admitted to Royapettah hospital.

On Friday evening he was discharged from the hospital and sent to Puzhal jail. “The suspension order was served on him after he finally reached the Puzhal prison,” sources here said.

The police department had already withdrawn orderlies and car earlier kept at his disposal.
CBI special crimes sleuths, Chennai, had arrested Pramod Kumar, IG armed police, Tamil Nadu police in Delhi on May 2.

He and a few of his junior officials had allegedly collected `3 crore from directors of Paazee Forex services, as hush money.

The CBI had also arrested the directors of Paazee, who were absconding, a few months ago.
Immediately after the scandal surfaced the official, who was IG west zone then, was transferred and post in Chennai.

He was later shifted out of Chennai city police and posted as IG armed police while CB-CID and later CBI probed his involvement in the scam.

Pramod Kumar’s disclosure to the government about his properties shows that he and his wife own land and properties in four places.
