Probe ordered against MK’s daughter

The Madras high court on Monday directed the inspector of police, T. Nagar police station, to consider a complaint against S. Selvi, daughter of DMK president M. Karunanidhi and her son-in-law V.M. Jothimani in connection with a land transaction and investigate this in accordance with law.

Justice A. Arumughaswamy gave the direction on a petition from V. Nedumaran of Valasaravakkam.

Vimal B. Crimson, counsel for the petitioner, submitted that Jothimani, son-in-law of Selvi, wife of K. Selvam, had in 2007 claimed to be the power agent of the property at Thalampur village, measuring 2.94 acres and promised the petitioner to sell the property for Rs 5,14,50,000. The petitioner paid Rs 3.50 crore in cash and cheque as advance.

After getting the money, Jothimani did not execute the sale deed and also did not return the money paid by the petitioner.

Instead, he started threatening him with dire consequences saying he was the son-in-law of the former chief minister’s daughter and will not pay back the money.

The petitioner learnt that Jothimani had already sold the property to one G.S.K. Velu. Suppressing these facts and the sale of the property, Jothimani had taken Rs 3.50 crore from him. Jothimani also did not take his phone calls.

The petitioner then went to the principal owner of the property, Selvi. However, there he was attacked physically and threatened.

He then lodged a complaint with the deputy commissioner of police and inspector of police, T. Nagar police station.

However, the police neither summoned him for inquiry nor registered his complaint to initiate legal action against the person for cheating and breach of trust.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
