PSUs stay off IIT campus
Several public sector companies appear to have given the IIT- Madras a miss this year owing to uncertainty over their participation in campus recruitments as a result of legal hassles.
Although the Madras high court has vacated the stay on campus recruitments by public sector undertakings (PSUs) in private institutions and the IIT - Madras, the companies have preferred to stay away.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle on Saturday, deputy registrar (training and placement), IIT-Madras, B. Nagarajan, said all PSUs had been invited for the campus placements, but none had confirmed participation so far. “They could be apprehensive about the case in the Madras high court,” he said. As many as 266 other companies are, however, taking part in the campus recruitment.
Of the 1,263 students who registered for placements this year, over 200 attended interviews conducted by companies like Samsung, Boston Consulting Group, Goldman Sachs, McKinsey; Google India, Sony (Japan), Tower Research, Facebook, Morgan Stanley, Microsoft Corporation, IBM Research Ltd and Credit Suisse, on Friday. “So far about 43 students have received pre-placement offers from 21 companies and 24 have already accepted them,” Mr Nagarajan said.
The IIT-M campus recruitments will be conducted in two phases this year, from December 1 to 22 and for a month from January 16.
