Railway cops help man get back Rs6 lakh
A man who lost Rs 6 lakh on a train at Chengalpet recovered his money by the time the train reached Tambaram, thanks to swift action by Railway police personnel.
Ganesan, from Villupram, had boarded the Chennai-Villupuram passenger train on Friday, according to Railway police sources.
When the train reached Chengalpet station around 4.45 pm, Ganesan had alighted to fetch drinking water leaving behind his bag containing Rs 6 lakh in cash. The train took off without Ganesan.
Immediately, Ganesan alerted the Chengalpet Government Railway Police, who in turn informed the Tambaram railway police of the incident.
When the train reached Tambaram around 5.50 pm, the police searched the compartment and found Ganesan’s bag.
Ganesan said that the money belonged to his friend Janardhanan, a gold tester in Villupuram, who had asked him to hand over the money to a person in Sowcarpet, Chennai.
The railway police contacted Janardhanan, who came to Tambaram. After questioning Janardhanan, the police handed over the money to him.
