Relief for motorists at Perambur subway

Nearly after a decade, railway authorities have finally decided to put an end to the plight of two-wheeler riders and pedestrians crossing the Perambur railway underpass by initiating works to provide a protective cover over the gap between the rail track and underpass on Wednesday
This will come as a huge relief for two-wheeler riders many of whom have been splattered with filth from passing trains.
It is a common sight to find motorists waiting in a serpentine queue near the Perambur railway underpass whenever a long-distance train approaches the railway bridge because the human excreta discharged from these trains fall directly on the motorists crossing underneath.
Members of the public had been asking for a protective cover beneath the track for quite some time now. This newspaper, in its January 17 edition, had highlighted the plight of two-wheeler riders and pedestrians, which was noticed by the Railway authorities.
They have now initiated works to cover the gaps underneath the track. However, of the four tracks, only two have been covered. The public has appealed to provide cover to the remaining tracks too.
