Residents flay civic body’s apathy
Residents of Pattinampkkam-lighthouse link road accuse Chennai corporation of indifference to their civic problems.
Moreover, residents believe that their economic vulnerability is taken as a reason behind the poor response in the conservancy activities carried out by the civic body.
Those who live along the beach shores term the public representatives and civic officials as rare birds who never turn up to hear their grievances.
“When the marina was beautified we thought that the same plan would be extended here but even the basic amenities like sanitation and timely disposal of garbage are not being carried out regularly” said T. Malarvizhi, a college student.
Residents say that despite being an arterial link road it did not get the needed attention. Lack of proper footpaths and debris piled up without being cleared on time are few among the several unkept promises by the civic body.
“The periodic patch works are being done in a very shoddy manner and public toilets are not adequate, I hope the Mayor looks into our problems,” said S. Poongothai, a homemaker.
The Mayors failed pet project like garbage shed plans enclosures are left abandoned adding to the unhygienic conditions. “Conservancy work is very poor, corporation sweepers never turn up to clean our area,” said M. Charles, a teacher.
When contacted Corporation officials said “We are doing our duty regularly, we have listed the places with poor platforms it may take sometimes but we will take care of cleanliness and road patch works immediately” he said. The official also promised that he would take care of the timely removal of the debris.
