Residents protest against power cuts
Residents of Alwarthiru Nagar picketed Tangedco office at Velan Nagar on Monday in protest against the frequent power outage and voltage fluctuation in their locality.
Around 30 residents of the locality picketed the office protesting against the power cut on Sunday night. “On Sunday night, the power went off following cable burning. The power was restored only after five hours,” the residents said.
Guru Subramanian, a resident said that the locality has been witnessing frequent power cuts and voltage fluctuation for the last two years.
“We had given petitions to the executive engineer to install a transformer in their locality to address the power fluctuation two years ago. But no action has been taken on it,” he said, adding that the officials have been giving some reasons for not fulfilling their demand.
A Tangedco official who came to pacify the agitating residents assured to install a transformer in their area in 10 days’ time.
Meanwhile, residents of MKB Nagar in Vysarpadi staged a demonstration protesting frequent power outages.
A resident complained that Samiyar Thottam, Bhakthavatchalam Nagar, Sivagami Nagar and Pudu Nagar has been witnessing longer duration of power cuts more than the scheduled one hour cut.
