Restore allotment of kerosene, CM urges PM
CM J. Jayalalithaa wrote to PM Monday reiterating her demand to restore kerosene quota of TN, which she said had been downsized by the Centre “without reason or logic”.
“The sudden drastic reduction in allotment of kerosene to the state from 52,806 KL for April-May, 2011, to 44,580 KL in June caused great hardship. After the AIADMK government came to power, the allotment was further reduced to 39,429 KL for the quarter April-June 2012,” she said.
In earlier letters and during a meeting with PM, CM had sought restoration of the original quota of 65,140 KL or at least 52,806 KL per month “to tide over the acute shortage of kerosene faced by the people of Tamil Nadu”.
The Centre had given a monthly allotment of 42,460 KL, an increase of just over 3,000 KL that was “negligible” compared to the “drastic reduction” effected earlier, she said.
“As the Tamil Nadu public distribution system requirement is 65,140 KL per month, I once again request you to allot at least 52,806 KL, which was the allotment when my government assumed power. I hope you will cooperate in mitigating the sufferings of the rural poor,” CM said.
