Rs 3 cr tickets booked online in 3 days
Earnings of the state transport corporation through online registration have for the first time touched nearly 50 per cent of its total per day earning.
The corporation has earned a whopping Rs 3 crore in just three days starting Friday last through online registration, thanks to the state government’s decision to operate 6,500 special buses during the run up to Deepavali.
“On the first day of operation of special buses on Friday, passengers across the state booked tickets for Rs 97 lakh through e-ticketing facility and online registration counters alone, which soar to a new high of Rs 1.17 crore on Saturday,” state transport minister Senthil Balaji told Deccan Chronicle on Sunday.
The minister added that there was an overwhelming response on Saturday with the revenue through reservation alone had crossed 45 per cent of total revenue earned on that day.
However, there was a bit dip in revenue through the reservation on Sunday when the corporation’s coffer still managed to swell by Rs 75 lakh.
“With one day remaining ahead of Deepavali, the STC has earned Rs 2.89 crore through e-ticketing, mobile booking and online reservation counters,” the minister said.
This apart, the total revenue earned including revenue collection through ticket sales in buses would certainly hearten the cash strapped corporation when the authorities sit for tallying the account post Deepavali.
