Several officials of AAI may get multiple promotions soon

Several assistant general managers and officers in the unified Airports Authority of India (AAI) may get multiple promotions as the recommendations given by a three-member committee constituted by the ministry of civil aviation (MoCA) are expected to be implemented soon. Sources said the committee has recommended February 1, 2005, as cut-off date for seniority.

The seniority issue is a bone of contention for employees of International Airports Authority of India (IAAI) since its merger with the National Airports Authority of India (NAAI) in 1995.

While AAI constituted many committees to settle the matter, the implementation of seniority has not been done for the last 17 years.

Recently, civil aviation minister Ajit Singh constituted a committee to find a solution to the problem affecting the sentiments of people across the AAI. “We found it embarrassing to work under a junior officer from NAAI and got promoted ahead of us,” said a senior GM, belonging to IAAI.

When the committee’s recommendations are implemented, 1,100 officers across the country, including 230 from Chennai, would benefit.

However, top management employees are a little disappointed, as it wouldn’t mean much to them.
