Shaping tomorrow’s leaders

In today’s fast-paced and highly competitive times, it is essential to possess skill sets that keep you ahead of the game.

These could help to make you an entrepreneur — a leader in your own right. With changing times, qualifications from reputed schools and colleges are not enough - they don't help entirely, but an acquired knack of leadership does.

In a bid to prepare school kids and give them a head start, many entrepreneurial workshops are being organised in the city.

TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) initiated the revolution in the city with a first-of-its-kind workshop for students of classes 9th to 12th.

Known as the TYE (TiE Young Entrepreneurs) Skill Development, the workshop aims at empowering the younger generation to become entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

The five-day workshop will enable students to think ahead, and aid them to develop leadership skills using the new-age innovation in technology - in a nutshell, ‘from the germination of the idea to the realization of the dream.’

Elaborating on the need for such workshops, the ex-principal of Delhi Public School, George Gabriel, opines, “Entrepreneurship is comparatively a new facet in Indian education.

In today’s competitive environment, it is essential for kids to possess the enterprising qualities required to make it big in the corporate scenario.

Such workshops will help the kids to shape their ideas in a better manner.”

Echoing a similar opinion is Nancy Devtha, a teacher at a prominent school in the city. “The need to excel starts at a very young age in today’s generation.”

Swaminathan K, charter member of TiE and founder of mybskool.com, opines, “Today, children have access to different modes of technology.

Inculcating entrepreneurial skills by means of the technological development that they are familiar with is the key to their bright future.

Children today are very self-sufficient, innovative in their approach and sharp - by the means of such workshops, we are just trying to show them the way to proceed.”

Many renowned entrepreneurs are to present their side of the story and inspire the children participating in the advent.

Arun Athiappan, the founder of www.ticketgoose.com and Ms. Sridevi Raghavan, co-founder and CEO of Amelio Child Care Pvt Ltd were among those who shared their experiences.

Rakesh Raghunathan, the man behind Petawrap and Ankit Chhajer, the co founder of 3G Simplified, will chair panel discussions and address the students.

The topics to be covered include implementation, creating value, forming a team and funding. Strategies on growing the company, value proposition, revenue and cost in business are other topics that will come up for discussion.

The sessions on the last two days will also address customer segment, relationships and channel, key partners, activities and resources and bringing it all together.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
