Signal failure disrupts EMU services
EMU services were disrupted for an hour on the busy Beach-Tambaram stretch owing to a signal failure between Kodambakkam and Mambalam stations late Saturday evening.
Around 8.35 pm, EMUs on Beach-Tambaram direction and the opposite direction were stopped midway and passenger remained stranded on board the trains.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that the EMU movement came to a standstill owing to an electrical problem that created signal failure between Kodambakkam and Mambalam.
The services were restored almost an hour later around 9.30 pm.
Buses plying on the route during peak hour were overcrowded as several irked passengers chose buses over trains owing the signal failure.
This is the second signal failure witnessed in the EMU network in the week. Few days back, passengers were stranded at Basin Bridge station in the peak hour owing to a similar signal failure.
EMUs bound to central station were diverted to beach, causing hardship to them. EOM. Karthik
