Singing minister enlivens Assembly session
Members of ruling party had a whale of time as labour minister Chellapandian kept singing 10 songs of matinee idol and AIADMK founder MGR during his reply to the House.
Enthused by this, a CPM legislator asked the Speaker to allow the minister to sing the song ‘once more’.
While replying to the demands for grants for his department the minister started singing from MGR film songs to which ruling party members tapped the benches in tune with the song.
After he had sung over five times, CPM member Balabarathi wondered if it was a theatre.
The minister continued with his songs. But the House was taken by surprise when CPM legislator Annadurai asked the minister to sing ‘once more’, though his party colleague had expressed his objection.

Student pursuing courses in government ITIs would be given free bicycles at the cost of `6.36 crore, labour minister Chellapandian informed the Assembly on Friday.
After successful distribution of free laptops to school and college students, the state government has decided to extend the scheme to students of government ITI as well, the minister told the Assembly. The move could cost the exchequer an additional expenditure of `3.56 crore.
