State assures HC on library facilities, books
The state government on Tuesday informed the Madras high court that it had not reduced purchase of books and periodicals or withdrawn facilities and staff at the Anna Centenary Library.
An affidavit by Kavignar Ilayabharathi sought a direction for the appointment of a committee or advocate commissioner headed by a retired high court judge to visit the Anna centenary library and ascertain the facilities and books available now and those that were available earlier, take note of the reduction in facilities and submit a report.
“We hope and trust the authorities will continue to maintain the library as it was prior to filing of these cases.
The petitioners are at liberty to file petitions in case the existing facilities are withdrawn by the authorities,” said a division bench of Chief Justice M.Y. Eqbal and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam.
Hearing of the batch of petitions, challenging the decision of the state to shift the library from Kotturpuram to DPI complex was postponed to April 17.
