State to fill 50% seats in private ITIs to enhance skilled force
In order to provide employability skill training to all the qualified students, the labour and employment department has issued an order to fill up 50 per cent of the seats in private industrial technical institutes (ITIs) under the government quota and the fee for the students would be borne by it.
According to the government issued by the department, only 50 per cent of the seats are filled up in the 627 private ITIs in the state with seating capacity of 60,320.
The candidates would be selected according to merit and communal rotation through district wise counselling arranged by the department of employment and training.
“District wise list of eligible private ITIs will be included in the prospectus. The government ITIs located in each district will conduct counselling,” the order said.
The private ITIs should have affiliation from National Council for Vocation Training (NCVT) and it must be in existence for a minimum period of three years.
Under the scheme, the government would reimburse Rs 10,000 per student per year for rural institutes, while Rs 12,000 per student a year would be paid to urban institutes.
“The cent per cent reimbursement of training cost will be given only for the passed out candidates in All India Trade Test conducted by NCVT,” it said.
Labour minister C. T. Chellapandian chaired a review meeting on the implementation of the GO on Monday.
