Stressed policewoman attempts suicide

A 20-year-old policewoman attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison reportedly due to stress at work in Egmore on Thursday.

The woman is admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for treatment.

Nirmala of Thoothukudi is a police personnel attached to the armed reserve wing. Since she had been continuously deployed for bandobust and other duties, she fell ill and had requested for leave.

When her leave application was rejected, Nirmala became frustrated owing to work pressure and consumed mosquito repellent liquid.

Her roommate who saw Nirmala collapse, alerted the Egmore police who rushed to the spot and sent her to the government hospital.

Police is investigatng further.
