Study fills docs with hopes of cure
Reports that a group of scientists from Singapore have located a human antibody that has the potential to neutralise and kill the dengue virus within two hours has brought cheer among the medical community in the city.
Reacting to the report, Dr Porkaipandiyan, director of public health, said that a potential cure for a disease like dengue was great news and it would benefit a lot of patients who are infected with the virus.
“Over 2,566 persons have been affected by dengue in the state since January and the fever claimed the lives of more than 36 persons.
We have taken efforts on a war footing to prevent the virus so far and reports that there may be a potential cure for dengue is very promising,” he said.
People begin to panic even if there is a single death caused by dengue. The possibility of a cure would bring down the fear factor to a large extent, observed Dr Kanagasabai, dean, Rajiv Gandhi government general hospital.
“However, the study should give conclusive evidence and we should make sure it does not have any side effects. A multiple centre study should also be done to see how well it would work on human beings,” he said.
