Take e-route to register vehicles
Henceforth, vehicle-buyers in the state need not wait for long to get their vehicle delivered from the automobile dealer shop.
Employees of nearly 1,600 automobile dealers in the state can pay the registration fee or lifetime tax for the customers’ vehicle by the click of a mouse without having to wait in long queues at RTO offices.
The state transport department has introduced ‘e-payment’ through which the dealers, having net-banking facility, can pay the registration fees online. National Informatics Centre (NIC) has designed the software and the government has roped in nine nationalised banks to provide the facility.
The dealers can avail of the facility through e-service web portal of the state transport authority by registering online with the RTO concerned. They should just key in the details of the vehicle and take a printout of the e-acknowledgement receipt. They could get things done at the RTO offices by producing the printout, sources said.
“While dealers can save time, it reduces the work of the overburdened clerical staff who handle documents of nearly 1.5 lakh vehicles a day across 117 RTOs, for registration. They can avoid handling bulk cash and need not rush to banks carrying demand drafts,” they added.
Usually, it takes at least 2-3 days to get a vehicle registered and complete other procedures, but it could be done in a matter of minutes with the new scheme.
