Tamil Nadu cops hunt for Delhi women in trafficking case
The Tamil Nadu police is on the look-out for two Delhi-based women who are believed to be running the human trafficking network and a supply chain to brothels across the country.
The two, Kavita and Pooja, have been reportedly trafficking women, including minors, from northeast states promising them jobs in beauty parlours and selling them to brothel houses.
The city police on Tuesday rescued three women including a minor from Darjeeling who arrived at the Chennai Central station by train and arrested two persons, natives of Delhi, for being part of the suspected human trafficking network.
The arrested are Kalpana, 35, and Sandeep 22. The two were taking the victims back to their native place when cops intercepted them based on a tip-off. “The two women rescued were ‘working’ in Dindigul and the minor was ‘employed’ in Kodaikanal,” the police said. The rescued women were sent to government shelter homes while the arrested brokers were sent to jail.
“The two decided to send back the three to Darjeeling after the victims’ families informed the police,” the police said. Though the arrested two claimed that they were first time offenders, cops suspect that they were part of a bigger network and were regularly bringing girls from northeast and northern states to Chennai to sell them to the brothels across TN. “
As it looked like a part of major human trafficking network, the city police decided to hand over the case to CB-CID” a city police officer said.
