Tamil Nadu to go on tourism ad blitz

Not wanting to be complacent with its catchphrase Enchanting Tamil Nadu, the state tourism department has plans to aggressively promote the tourism potential of the state and has earmarked about Rs 10 crore for a campaign in the country and abroad.

Presently, the department is in the process of roping in a consultant to aid the department launch the marketing blitzkrieg.

The agency would, among other things, evolve a strategy in tune with the vision document 2015 for the coming three years.

The department has proposed to allocate a total of Rs 30 crore for the coming three years to position Tamil Nadu as the most attractive destination in the country, according to sources.

This agency would also organise roadshows, trade fairs, international travel marts and conferences, integrated promotion plans and action plans, and release advertisements to promote the state’s tourism potential.

The agency would act as the official tourism promotion advisor and coordinator (TPAC) to the tourism department for three years.

The agency would review the tourism activities undertaken by department in the past five years and prepare a status report that would set the baseline for future strategy formulation.

It would also prepare a roadmap for performance for 36 months (agreement period) and prepare a brand campaign to create a strong brand identity for Tamil Nadu tourism, create universal awareness among the target audience and also to create comprehensive information on destinations.

“This effort would go a long way in making Tamil Nadu an ideal and safe destination for both foreigners and domestic tourists,” an official told DC.
