Tamil Nadu infra gets better with new bridges, bypass, subway
Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa on Tuesday inaugurated 35 newly built bridges and a six-lane bypass constructed across the state at the cost of Rs 181.65 crore.
Ms Jayalalithaa launched the facility through video-conferencing from the secretariat, an official release said.
State highways minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and highways secretary T.K. Ramachandran were also present.
The vehicular subway in Villivakkam constructed at the cost of Rs 39 crore by Chennai corporation and Southern Railway was also inaugurated along with various other bridges.
The work for the subway began in 2008 and its completion was much awaited by North Chennai residents.
The release said the bridges connect various towns and cities across the state benefiting transport and logistics services.
Besides, the chief minister launched the six-lane Thuraiyur bypass constructed at Rs 9.45 crore in Tiruchirapalli district.
The chief minister also opened newly constructed buildings, one check post and a driving test facility for the transport department, it said.
