Tamil Nadu writes to Centre on Coast Guard
Tamil Nadu has written to the director general (DG) of Indian Coast Guard seeking to probe the hitting of a country boat allegedly by a Coast Guard ship that killed a fisherman off Pamban coast on May 10.
“Based on my direction, the chief secretary has written to DG, Coast Guard, in New Delhi seeking a detailed probe to unearth the truth and demanding appropriate action against those responsible for killing the fisherman,” CM J. Jayalalithaa told the Assembly Monday.
She said 19-year-old Calvin Miller drowned after the Coast Guard ship allegedly collided with the country boat he was using to fish with four others.
CM said she had already announced a solatium of `5 lakh to his family.
