Tangedco told to look into requirement of substations
Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) has asked the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd (Tangedco) to prepare a comprehensive proposal on the requirement of substations (SS) to improve the prevalent voltage fluctuation in and around the city.
It also directed the corporation to take up the issue of land allotment with the state government for setting up new substations.
The suggestions to this effect was given by the commission in the review meeting of distribution network held here recently with Tangedco and Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Ltd (Tantransco).
The commission also asked the Tangedco and Tantransco officials to come out with a comprehensive and concrete programme with details of target date in order to alienate the low voltage problem in Chennai city and other areas.
TNERC member K. Venugopal, in the meeting, pointed out that the prevalent low voltage condition was due to overloading of the network and hence necessary improvements for introduction of parallel paths and new SS should be undertaken urgently.
To address voltage fluctuation, Tangedco official said that 24 capacitor banks would be installed in 19 SS before August 15 in Chennai region.
On the issue of erection of distribution transformers, the officials said that 1139 transformers would be installed in the city under Restructured-Accelerated Power Development and Reform Programme (R-APDRP). “The purchase order for the same would be issued,” the official said.
The official stated that after the erection of 230 kv Mylapore-Taramani-Kalivanthapettu line, there would be considerable improvement in the low voltage problem.
