Teso resolution will be sent to UN: MK
DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Friday announced that the resolutions adopted at the Tamil Eelam Supporters’ Organisation (Teso) conference would be handed over to the United Nations.
“DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin and the parliamentary party leader T.R. Baalu will hand over the resolutions adopted at the Teso conference to the UN in a month,” Mr Karunanidhi said addressing a public meeting at Ambattur.
DMK chief said after the August 12 conference, the resolution was handed over to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by a delegation of DMK MPs on Tuesday.
“We have demanded that India bring a resolution in the UN General Assembly and the UNHRC for bestowing rights on Sri Lankan Tamils to decide a political solution by themselves,” he recalled.
Mr Karunanidhi said an official of the Central government has sent a notice without the knowledge of Prime Minister stating that the Eelam was not acceptable. “Even the Central government has given permission to the conference after Mr Baalu’s intervention, but the government here through the police banned the meet,” he alleged.
He claimed that Tamil Eelam could have been achieved long back if they avoided fratricidal fights.
“We could have achieved the Eelam if they remained united. But they choose to fight with each other,” he said.
Mr Baalu said the UN should intervene in the Sri Lankan Tamils issue like the role it played in South Sudan. Union minister of state Dr S. Jagathratchagan and senior DMK leader Durai Murugan also addressed the meeting.
